Quick tip: Using layer comps to easily present your PSD files
![]() |
Sometimes when we’re designing in Photoshop, our designs end up filled with tons of layers, groups, smart objects and more, making sometimes quite difficult to select what we need and work on it. Certainly a good way to organize your files is by using groups, but even with that the organizing gets complicated sometimes. With this tip we will show you a better way to keep your Photoshop organized, so you can have several objects that can be selected or hidden in a faster way than with the usual layers window. |
When you have many layers and objects within a Photoshop file, you can start using layer comps to organize them, as we’re about to show you on today’s tip. First go to Windows>Layer Comps to activate the panel.

It’s simple to start using layer comps, first you need to get familiarized with the panel.

Now you just need to hide everything but the things you want to see on your layers window.

And now go to the layer comps window and make a new one, assign a name that reminds you of the objects contained inside that specific layer comp.

As you can see, layer comps can save the visible object and remind its visibility, position or/and layer style. After that you just need to hit OK and you’re done. Now you can proceed making additional layer comps to organize your entire Photoshop file.

And that’s it, every time you click over any layer comp, only the layers that were visible when you made it will show up, a great way to quickly search between layers and groups within a Photoshop file. We hope you find this tip useful to improve your design time, come back tomorrow to find more tips.
