Design rights, legal terms… learn everything

legaldesign00

The term ‘Copyright’ has been a theme of discussion for many years, though ending the argument was a lot easier in the past and people were actually able to set up an agreement. Now that we’re living on the Internet era, understanding copyright has become a more complicated issue that affects among others, us designers.

For graphic and web designers, understanding how copyright works is something that they don’t really care about, because you could say that in this alcove there’s still a lot of confidence in people’s good manners and therefore many design jobs are contracted through simple oral agreements (or not even that), but now we’re going to study why designers need to pay more attention to legal terms, contracts, copyright, Creative Commons and others.

Tracking google analytics

Analytics

Any blogger, e-commerce entrepreneur or web developer have eventually related to Google Analytics at a certain point. Probably the best free monitoring service until this date, Analytics gives you powerful insights regarding your site’s traffic and marketing effectiveness. The service is flexible and easy to use, making it one of the favorites for many web developers and bloggers.

One popular way of gaining visitors is placing campaign links in other webpages. Either if it’s a banner, a pop window, etc, the idea is to invite people to make clink on it to land in your site. Normally you will simply pass your site’s link to the page’s owner, e.g ‘www.mygrandpage.com’ and the person will place that link within your campaign medium.

Web 3.0, the present and the future of web

cartoon-1

At this very moment, somewhere in the world, some guy (let’s call him hmm… “Rupert”) is in front of his computer. No need to imagine him as a super geek or as an obscure techie obsessed person. Our hero is not even a rich or a powerful figure in society. Rupert is just a 15 year old middle class teen that has just got home back from school.  His teacher has emailed a literature assignment to the entire class from a Blackberry: they have to read a VI century BC book titled “The art of war”, by some Chinese guy called Sun Tzu… nobody Rupert can recall from his favorite Kung Fu movies anyway.

Rupert chats with some of his favorite schoolmates on Facebook, while browsing through thousands of free eBooks available on Project Guttenberg. Nobody home to cook, so he opens another browser tab and orders some pizza with a few clicks, tweeting to his friends afterwards on how he thinks pepperoni is cooler than anchovies.
